Cold temperatures, wind and rain kept most vacationers off area waters for Labor Day weekend. On Saturday September 4th the high temperature at Houghton Lake reached only 59 degrees. Sunday was not much warmer topping out at 66 degrees. Labor Day itself started out cool and rainy, changing to partly sunny, windy yet still cool by the afternoon. US-127 Southbound was congested on Labor Day as northern area visitors returned home for the start of the 2010-11 public school season. Houghton Lake public schools resume session on Wednesday September 8th. |
