January 27th - Houghton Lake Fishermen On Ice, with Snowmobile
These fishermen were on Houghton Lake today with their portable shanties and snowmobile, just south of Long Point. There is little or snow on the Lake.

January 27th - Higgins Lake Frozen, Fishermen
Higgins Lake has frozen over. Walk-on ice fishermen are beginning to appear along the West Shore DNR Boat Launch and the northwest corner of Treasure Island. Houghton and Higgins Lake ARE NOT snow covered right now.

January 14th - Snow, Open Waters
Houghton Lake is not yet fully ice covered. Open water segments exist on the North Bay between West Shore Drive and Long Point. There's also open water in front of the Comfort Suites Hotel along Old US-27.

The water has not yet froze in front of the Houghton Lake Heights. These videos show open water in front of the Roscommon Township Park and Carl Street, both in the Heights.
